It’s Blackberry Season at Paulk Vineyards!

June 13, 2019

As you may already know, Paulk Vineyards is best known for growing muscadines, but over the years, weve tried our hand at many other fruits as well. Several years ago, Gary and JW began growing blackberries, and now there are well over 100 acres of blackberries grown here at Paulk Vineyards.

These berries are primarily sold commercially through distributors or wholesale to grocery store and farmers markets; however, this year we decided to try something new. Our strawberry pick-your-own has been so successful that for the first time ever, were offering a blackberry pick-your-own too!

So many folks have sweet memories of picking wild blackberries off of fence rows or out in the woods with their parents or grandparents back when they were younger. Those delicious, sweet-tart berries were sure to make their way into cobblers and jellies, provided that they actually made it into the bucket and all the way home. Sometimes, the temptation was just too great, as evidenced by dark berry juice stains on little fingers and mouths!

While there are many variations of blackberry cobblers on Pinterest and in any Southern cookbook worth its salt, weve found that sometimes the simplest recipe is the best. And, the aptly-named Lazy Girl Cobblerrecipe is certainly the easiest! If you dont care for blackberries, just switch them out for whatever fruit you like, or even combine fruits when you can’t decide! (Our favorite combo is blackberries and peaches!)
